Grootpan also caters for those of us that just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Many guests come to the Lodge especially for our game viewing and bird watching or just to get away from it all. Whilst some people might like to laze around the camp, others wish to explore the African bush. Our highly trained staff will introduce you to many species of game and also provide information on the flora and fauna. For hunters and non-hunters alike, Grootpan offer these additional activities.

Wildlife Experience

Game drives and bush walks are part of the leisure and wildlife experience at Grootpan.
Explore the untamed bush in open-air vehicles where various species of antelope and other African mammals including giraffe, zebra, eland, gemsbuck, blue wildebeest, kudu, red hartebeest, impala and warthog - to name just a few - can be seen.
Bring along your camera, to capture some unforgettable moments.

Bush walks and hikes

In addition to being able to view some of the larger game up close, you can experience the smaller animals and insects of the African bush on a walking safari.
These take place by arrangement but is usually the best early morning and late afternoon
Our experienced Fields guides are at your service with expert knowledge of the fauna and flora in the area
Safe areas are clearly marked to ensure visitors are not in a hunting area. This means the environment is ideal for introducing young family members to nature, as a lot of time can be spent on foot amongst the game
We also offer guided walking game viewing on our reserve
Night drives can be arranged.

Bring your bicycles along and view game up close whilst getting some exercise and fresh air at the same time
Safe areas demarcated to ensure visitors are not in a hunting area

A variety of bird species can be spotted in the near vicinity of the Lodge
Safe hides are strategically placed throughout the ranch.

Relaxation

Enjoy the warmth of the African sun next to the tranquil pool or relax on the veranda, from where you have a bird’s eye view on the nearby waterhole, where the different species of game visit to quench their thirst or just take a mud bath.
