What to Bring

Travel List:

  • Passport
  • Visa (if required)
  • Customs certificate for guns and cameras for return to the country of origin
  • Airline Reservations/Tickets & your travel agent's contact details
  • Necessary vaccinations & Health Certificates (see your nearest travel clinic)
  • Credit cards, travellers' cheques, cash
  • Travel insurance (usually arranged by your travel agent)
  • Address & contact details for your outfitter/PH in Africa (our information here)
  • Accommodation bookings for before & end of safari

Clothing:

  • Khaki, Olive or Camouflage clothing is convenient
  • Shorts (or loose fitting long pants) and T-shirts or short sleeve shirts for day time
  • Warm clothing for night time and early morning
  • Sunhat
  • Sunglasses
  • Warm jacket
  • Light Windbreaker
  • Sweater
  • Underwear (warm - for going out early in African winter mornings)
  • Gloves & beanie hat - also for those early mornings
  • Leather Gloves
  • Fingerless Gloves
  • Bandanna
  • Socks
  • Comfortable In-Camp shoes
  • Comfortable walking boots - preferably ones that are warn in

Personal Equipment/ Extras:

  • Torch
  • Torch batteries (and batteries for anything else that might need it)
  • 12 volt recharger for video or 220 electrical converter (220V or 240V is the standard power supply in Africa)
  • Plug adaptors (bring a variety of plugs as there are many varieties: square pin, round pin, two prong etc)
  • Sewing kit & repair material
  • Pen, pencil & paper
  • Cellphone with roaming capabilities (needs to work on GSM system)
  • Books & other reading material
  • Travel Pack
  • Moon bag/belt
  • Radio
  • Extra Eye Glasses (where applicable)
  • Cord, tape & superglue
  • Protective Watch Cap
  • Sunglasses

Arms, Ammunition & other Hunting Gear:

  • Bring your favourite, the one you are most comfortable with.
  • 50 Rounds of ammunition should be sufficient
  • Plains Game:
    • We recommend a minimum of 270 .50 Cartriges should be sufficient for your hunt
  • Big Game and Thick Skin Animals:
    • A minimum of 375 is required
    • .375 H&H. min.
  • Dangerous Game
    • .30Cal. for plains game
    • 20 rds solids
    • 50 soft-points
  • Gun cleaning kit
  • Pocket knife

  • Water purification tablets (remember this is not necessary for South Africa as the water is safe to drink out of the taps)
  • Personal hygiene kit & clippers
  • Mosquito / Insect repellent

Medical

  • Small medical kit containing :
    • Foot powder
    • Antibiotics (tropical ointment prescription)
    • Diarrhoea medication
    • Headache tablets
    • Any personal medication (If you are bringing prescription medication, we recommend you also bring a copy of your doctor's prescription so as to avoid questions when you arrive)
